Russia dismisses Bloomberg report on altering US Ukraine peace plan
The Russian Foreign Ministry has dismissed a Bloomberg article claiming that Russia intends to adjust the US peace plan for Ukraine as fake news.
Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, wrote on Telegram that the report was “fake,” Caliber.Az reports.
She added that the media outlet in question had no reliable sources close to the Kremlin, relying only on unreliable ones, and that references to “proximity to the Kremlin” were merely a cover for the false information.
Bloomberg reported that Russia views the latest 20‑point peace plan jointly developed by Ukraine and the United States as merely a starting point for negotiations and intends to press for significant changes because the draft lacks key provisions Moscow demands, such as guarantees against NATO’s future expansion and Ukraine’s neutral status if it joins the EU.
According to Bloomberg’s unnamed Kremlin‑linked source, Moscow is concerned the peace plan does not address its core security interests, including restrictions on the size and types of Ukraine’s armed forces and clear assurances on the status of the Russian language in Ukraine post‑war.
The report also noted that Russia seeks clarity on how Western sanctions would be lifted and how frozen Russian assets might be unfrozen, which are not spelt out in the current draft, leading Moscow to study the document “with a cool head” rather than endorse it outright.
