Russia estimates $8.6 million damage from 2025 Bryansk bridge explosion
Russia’s Investigative Committee said the damage caused by the explosion of a bridge in the Bryansk region last year is preliminarily estimated at more than 680 million rubles (about $8.6 million). The agency reported the figure in a statement published on its Telegram channel.
According to investigators, Ukrainian military personnel were involved in the May 31, 2025, explosion of the Bryansk–Novozybkov highway overpass in western Russia.
“The preliminary amount of damage exceeds 680 million rubles,” the statement said.
The Investigative Committee added that servicemen of the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been charged in connection with the incident. Russian authorities have placed the accused on an international wanted list, the agency said.
The bridge explosion had deadly consequences the following night. In the early hours of June 1, a passenger train travelling from Klimovo to Moscow derailed in the Bryansk region after the bridge was blown up. Seven people sustained fatal injuries, while more than one hundred others were wounded.
Russian investigators also said that another railway bridge collapsed in the neighbouring Kursk region the following day as a result of an explosion.
The conversion of the damage estimate is based on a rate of roughly 78.7 rubles per US dollar, placing the losses at about $8.6 million.
