Russia: Fatal crash on Tula’s M-4 highway sparks 10-kilometre tailback VIDEO
A major road accident on the M-4 motorway in Russia’s Tula region has left one person dead and six others injured, authorities say.
The crash, involving several lorries, was caused by a heavy snowstorm that reduced visibility to near zero, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Traffic towards Voronezh has come to a virtual standstill, with drivers trapped in a tailback stretching approximately 10 kilometres for over five hours. Authorities have advised using a diversion through the town of Bogoroditsk, but this route is also affected by further collisions.
Emergency services, including fire and medical teams, have rushed to the scene. Heavy machinery is being used to clear the lorries, while more than ten accident recovery crews are assisting. Road crews are treating the motorway with anti-icing materials to prevent further incidents.
The Tula Region traffic police reported that seven separate collisions occurred along the section of the M-4 in Uzlovsky District, resulting in one fatality and six injuries.
