Russia foils terror plot targeting senior official in Kursk

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has prevented a planned terrorist attack targeting a senior official in the Kursk Region, according to the FSB’s Centre for Public Relations.

The Federal Security Service said the plot was planned by a Russian citizen born in 1974, Caliber.Az reports, citing TASS.

The suspect, a native of Ladyzhyn living in Kursk Region, was tasked by a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence to conduct visual surveillance near the regional government building.

His objectives included determining times, routes of arrival and departure, and selecting a location to place an explosive device.

The collected information, along with photos and videos, was reportedly sent via Telegram to his handler.

“The suspect was detained by FSB officers while attempting to retrieve an explosive device equipped with shrapnel from a cache,” the agency added.

The detained individual has confessed to the plot.
