FSB opens terrorism case against Russian Democratic Society official

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has opened a criminal case against Ksenia Maksimova, a founder of the Russian Democratic Society UK, accusing her of participating in terrorist activities.

The FSB said the case was opened under Article 205.5 of Russia’s Criminal Code, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Maksimova, a model born in 1986, is also described by the agency as an official of the Russian Democratic Society UK and a consul of the Anti-War Committee of Russia.

According to the FSB, Maksimova founded the organisation in London after the start of the war in Ukraine, bringing together Russian expatriates and organising fundraising and aid for Kyiv.

The agency alleged that the organisation had hosted appearances by people planning a violent seizure of power in Russia, as well as events supporting extremist organisations and actions against Russian officials.

Maksimova has been placed on a wanted list and added to the Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring) register.

The FSB said its investigation was continuing.
