Russia outlaws Deutsche Welle as "undesirable organisation"

Russia has added Germany’s international broadcaster Deutsche Welle to its list of “undesirable organisations”, according to the country’s Justice Ministry.

State news agency Interfax reported that the designation appears in official ministry records.

Deutsche Welle was previously labelled a “foreign agent” by Russian authorities in March 2022.

Earlier, in February of the same year, Russia’s Foreign Ministry ordered Deutsche Welle to halt broadcasting in the country and revoked the accreditation of its Moscow-based correspondents.

The move was described by Moscow as a retaliatory measure after Germany banned the transmission of the RT DE television channel.
