Russia proposes new export taxes targeting EU trade

Russia’s Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, has proposed introducing additional charges on Russian exports to European Union countries, including fertilisers, with the revenue directed towards funding the country’s defence industry.

According to Russian media, Medvedev made the comments in response to a statement by Estonia’s prime minister, who earlier suggested imposing tariffs on Russian goods to support Ukraine.

“Reciprocal measures are needed,” Medvedev said. “We should introduce new levies on Russian exports to EU countries, including fertilisers, and use the proceeds to finance Russia’s military-industrial complex.”
