Russia reaffirms security commitments to Armenia amid CSTO tensions
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin affirmed that Russia will continue its security commitments to Armenia and has no plans to withdraw from its military-political obligations.
Addressing the public forum “Russia-Armenia”, Galuzin emphasized that Russia’s support for Armenia is rooted in comprehensive agreements, both bilateral and within their association in the Eurasian space, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian sources.
“We are not abandoning our commitments to our allies, including in the military-political sphere,” he stated.
Galuzin reaffirmed that Russia continues to serve as a guarantor of Armenia’s military, energy, and food security, further underscoring the importance of their strategic partnership.
This statement comes amid ongoing tensions between Armenia and the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has previously declared that Armenia has frozen its participation in the CSTO, labelling the organization a “security threat” to his country. Pashinyan also mentioned that Armenia had passed the point of no return in its relationship with the CSTO, a stance that provoked a response from the Kremlin.
In contrast to Pashinyan’s assessment, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov disagreed, asserting that the CSTO was not a threat but rather an organization designed to protect the sovereignty of its member states.
