Russia recalls its ambassador from Armenia

Russia has recalled its ambassador to Armenia for consultations amid growing tensions over Yerevan’s increasing engagement with the European Union, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on May 30.

The ministry confirmed that Ambassador Sergey Kopyrkin has been summoned to Moscow, citing concerns over what it described as Armenian leadership steps “towards closer alignment with the European Union” that are “damaging cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.”
