Russia repels drones across multiple regions: Power substation hit in Volgograd
Russian regional authorities reported overnight drone attacks across several parts of the country, including the Volgograd, Leningrad, Voronezh, and Moscow regions. Officials said the Russian air defence forces intercepted multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), with debris from one drone causing a brief fire at a power facility.
According to Volgograd Region Governor Andrey Bocharov's Telegram post, air defence units of the Russian Ministry of Defence repelled a large-scale UAV attack over the region, Caliber.Az reports.
He said debris from one of the intercepted drones fell on the territory of the Balashovskaya power substation in the Novonikolaevsky district, sparking a fire that was quickly extinguished. A private home in the Svetloyarsky district was also damaged, but there were no casualties reported.
Due to the attacks, temporary restrictions were introduced at several regional airports, including Volgograd, Gelendzhik, and Yaroslavl (Tunoshna), to ensure flight safety.
In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defence systems shot down several drones as they approached the capital, bringing the total number destroyed near the city since the beginning of the night to six.
Elsewhere, Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko and authorities in the Voronezh Region also reported that local air defence units had downed several drones targeting their territories.
Ocverall, some 121 Ukrainian UAVs were shot down over Russian regions overnight, according to the country's Ministry of Defence.
