Russia's imports of Georgian fish reach record high in May

Russia's imports of frozen fish from Georgia rose to a record high in May, reaching $1.3 million, according to data from Georgia's National Statistics Office.

Russian companies imported $1.3 million worth of frozen fish during the month, up from $1.1 million in April, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

The 18.2% month-on-month increase marked the highest monthly import value since the statistics office began compiling comparable data in 2009.

The figures underscore a growing trade flow that has accelerated over the past year. Prior to June 2025, Georgian fish exports to Russia were sporadic.

Since then, shipments have continued almost uninterrupted, with January 2026 the only month in which no exports were recorded.

Russia was the largest buyer of Georgian frozen fish in May, accounting for the majority of exports. Kazakhstan imported $500,100 worth of frozen fish during the month, while Azerbaijan purchased $313,100.
