Russia's Lavrov set for talks on security and cooperation in Central Asia

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will participate in a meeting of the foreign ministers of Central Asian states in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on April 11.

"On April 11, in Almaty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia will participate in the first meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS this year. The foreign ministers will exchange views on current international issues, discuss priorities and directions for integration cooperation within the Commonwealth in the current year," she said during a briefing, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

"Special attention will be given to preparations for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in the CIS member states, as well as other issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and topics related to strengthening border security," Zakharova noted.

Additionally, Lavrov will participate in the eighth meeting of the foreign ministers of Central Asian states.

"It is planned to discuss a wide range of issues of political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation in the six-party format. An exchange of views is expected on key international issues with a focus on coordinating actions to resolve them, as well as strengthening security and stability in the Central Asian region," Zakharova said.
