Russia’s state-backed MAX app launches “digital ID”
Users of Russia’s state MAX messaging platform can now check into hotels without paperwork using a new “Digital ID” feature, the company said, as it expands its push into everyday digital services.
According to the app’s press office, the system allows guests to bypass traditional registration forms by generating a scannable barcode within the app. Hotel staff can scan the code to retrieve the necessary identification details, streamlining the check-in process, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The feature is currently available to adult Russian citizens, who can access it through the “Digital ID” section of their profile by selecting the passport tab and presenting the generated barcode upon arrival.
The technology is being tested in a pilot program at several locations, including Four Seasons Hotel Moscow, Sochi Park Hotel, City Hotel 1905 and Mantera Supreme Seaside, as well as properties operated by the Cosmos Hotels group. The company said it expects the service to be rolled out to several thousand hotels across Russia within a year.
Max is a messaging and e-commerce platform run by tech giant VK that is expanding to offer everything from taxi-hailing services to electronic passport wallets, modeled on China’s WeChat.
