Russia's Zakharova slams American politicians amid release of Fukushima waters into Ocean

As a sign of their solidarity, the Russian spokesperson for the foreign ministry has invited American politicians to take a sip of the radioactive water, which is being currently discharged into the Ocean from the Japanese Fukushima nuclear plant.

According to a statement by the ministry's representative, Maria Zakharova, regarding the support US officials provided to the Japanese government regarding the situation at the disabled Japanese power plant, which in 2011 was the site of one of the worst nuclear disasters, she put forward this invitation during a press briefing.

"It seems to me, that those American politicians, who supported Japan in this matter, could demonstrate their solidarity and finally drink this water, being so completely convinced of its safety", Zakharova urged.

Caliber.Az recalls, that the Japanese government has recently started releasing treated radioactive water, which had been used to flood the reactors following the 2011 accident, from the ill-fated Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean, which led to a widespread outcry by several countries, including neighbouring China. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, this includes a ban on Japanese seafood and a diplomatic quarrel over safety issues. Russian spokesperson Zakharova issued a post on her official X (former Twitter) page on this issue, asking for the "price for the silence of the world’s leading environmental organisations".

Japanese politicians, which are ensuring the public of the safety of said waters, are, for some reason, refusing to drink it, the Russian official noted.

She further stated, that such things occur when one talks about the "overt politicization, which is something the US is regularly applying".

On August 30, the Japanese Prime Minister tried to ease the situation by publicly consuming goods from the Fukushima region.
