Russia sends additional rescuers to flood-hit Dagestan
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia has deployed an additional 100 rescue workers to flood-affected areas in Dagestan, according to TASS, citing the ministry’s press service.
Authorities said 30 units of equipment have also been sent to support ongoing emergency operations as flooding continues to impact six municipalities across the republic.
According to official data, around 1,000 residential homes, 1,100 household plots, and 70 road sections remain submerged. Power outages persist in three municipalities, while gas supply disruptions continue in two. In the Karabudakhkentsky district, residents are still without access to clean water.
Heavy rainfall at the end of March caused rivers to overflow and riverbanks to erode, followed by a second wave of flooding on April 5. A dam breach in the Derbentsky district resulted in six fatalities, while more than 15,000 people have been affected overall.
A state of emergency has been in place in the region since April 7 as rescue and recovery operations continue.
