Russia supports normalisation of Türkiye-Syria relations
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov has said that Russia supports the normalisation of relations between Türkiye and Syria.
“There is the need to advance the negotiation process and prepare for a meeting between the leaders of the two countries,” Bogdanov told reporters, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
"We advocate for the normalization of interstate relations between Türkiye and Syria based on mutual recognition of territorial integrity and sovereignty. We were involved in initiating this process. We support the continuation and acceleration of this process. It would be very beneficial if the leaders met. I believe serious preparation is required for such a meeting."
When asked about the possibility of such a meeting in Russia, Bogdanov responded that he did not have information on that matter.
"We are always ready to host meetings in Moscow, including trilateral ones involving representatives from both Damascus and Ankara. Of course, we are also in contact with the Iranians and Iraqis. Both Iran and Iraq are very interested in the normalisation of relations between Syria and Türkiye, as it would positively impact the overall situation in and around Syria," he added.
