Russia to mirror US sanctions against American media Foreign Ministry spokeswoman warns
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, declared that Russia will respond to US sanctions and pressure against Russian media with reciprocal measures targeting American journalists and outlets.
She emphasized that these actions aim to make American media professionals aware of the “bullying” faced by their Russian counterparts, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
Zakharova asserted that the US sanctions have escalated beyond mere restrictions, describing them as a declaration of war on freedom of speech. She criticized Washington for “attacking” journalists under dubious pretenses, claiming that their personal safety is now at risk as a result of these actions.
The comments from Zakharova follow statements from the UN Secretary General's office regarding the sanctions imposed on Russian media, highlighting the ongoing tensions surrounding press freedoms and the impact of geopolitical conflicts on journalism.
