Russia, Ukraine conduct second prisoner of war exchange
A second exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine took place on June 10, with both nations repatriating captured military personnel.
This development follows agreements reached during negotiations held in Istanbul on June 2, marking a continued effort to facilitate the return of servicemen caught in the ongoing conflict, Caliber.Az reports via Russian Ministry of Defence.
According to the ministry, a group of Russian servicemen has returned from Ukrainian territory. In a reciprocal arrangement, the Russian Federation simultaneously transferred a contingent of captured Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel.
The repatriated Russian military are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving essential medical and psychological assistance. The ministry confirmed that, upon the completion of their treatment and rehabilitation, all servicemen will be returned to Russia.
The Istanbul agreements outline a phased approach to the exchange of prisoners of war, prioritising specific groups, including the severely wounded, those suffering serious illnesses, and young military personnel under 25.
