Russia upgrading Malva self-propelled gun to counter Ukraine howitzers
Deputy General Director of Russia’s state-run defence conglomerate Rostec Vladimir Artyakov has said that the Rostec enterprises are developing a modernized version of the Malva 152-millimetre-wheeled self-propelled artillery gun.
The new equipment will be able to withstand howitzers used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to Kommersant.
Artyakov noted that the Russian troops will start receiving the artillery units in the coming months.
He said that the distinctive feature of the Malva howitzer is its high mobility due to its wheeled chassis.
In addition, the self-propelled artillery unit has an automated calculation of firing parameters for all types of ammunition. There is also a simultaneous fire attack mode, which guarantees simultaneous reaching of the target by several shells fired one after another.
"Malva", 152-millimetre self-propelled artillery gun 2S43, is based on a special chassis BAZ-6610-027 "Voshchina". It is a four-axle all-wheel drive vehicle of high payload capacity. The unit is designed to defeat command posts, defensive structures, artillery, rocket and mortar batteries, and air defence systems.
