Russia, US conclude "challenging but productive" talks in Saudi Arabia Member of Russian delegation says

25 March 2025 10:42

The recent dialogue between expert groups from Russia and the United States, held in Saudi Arabia's capital on March 24, proved to be challenging but productive, said Grigory Karasin, chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs and a member of the Russian delegation.

Karasin emphasized that the discussions, although tough, allowed for a wide range of issues to be addressed, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.

"Everything was discussed; it was a lengthy and challenging dialogue, but ultimately very beneficial for both us and the Americans," he stated.

"Many problems were discussed. Of course, not everything was resolved, not everything was agreed upon, but the fact that such a conversation took place is very timely, especially with the arrival of the new administration and the new politicians who attended the expert group meeting," Karasin noted.

While the talks did not lead to immediate resolutions on all fronts, Karasin highlighted their importance in maintaining constructive engagement between the two countries. He confirmed that the discussions would continue and expand to include the broader international community, with the involvement of the United Nations and other individual nations.

"We will continue these efforts, involving both the international community, primarily the United Nations, and individual countries," Karasin noted. "Overall, the impression left is that of a constructive dialogue, which is needed and necessary. The Americans are also interested in it."

Earlier on March 24, a meeting between Russian and US representatives in Riyadh concluded after more than 12 hours of discussions aimed at addressing issues related to the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict. A source from the Russian delegation said that the two sides had reached an agreement on a joint statement, which is expected to be released by the Kremlin and the White House on March 25. The participants refrained from commenting on the meeting's outcome.
