Russia warns against spillover of Iran conflict into Caspian region

Russia would react “extremely negatively” to any expansion of the Iran-related conflict into the Caspian region, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a briefing on March 24.

Peskov made the remarks when asked how Moscow would respond if the Middle East conflict were to escalate towards the Caspian Sea, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

“We would perceive it as extremely negative,” he said, underscoring the Kremlin’s concern over any potential geographic widening of the confrontation.

Peskov declined to comment on reports alleging that Israel had struck Russian vessels purportedly transporting weapons to Iran via the Caspian Sea. He said he had no information regarding such claims.
