Russian army chief: Baku, Yerevan move closer to peace as Russia facilitates talks

Baku and Yerevan are reportedly making strides towards the normalization of their bilateral relations, with Russia playing a pivotal role in fostering cooperation between the two nations, said chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, Valery Gerasimov.

During a briefing with foreign military attachés, he emphasized the positive trajectory of the peace process, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Gerasimov attributed much of this progress to Russia's constructive involvement, contrasting it with what he described as the "destructive actions" of Western powers in the region.

"Our country’s efforts have contributed significantly to the positive movement in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia," Gerasimov stated.

"This progress is evident in both political dialogue and practical measures on the ground."

Notably, Gerasimov highlighted the completion of the demarcation process for one of the most complex sections of the interstate border, which runs between Azerbaijan’s Ganja district and Armenia’s Tavush region. This milestone marks a crucial step in easing tensions and building trust between the two countries.

Thus, it was previously reported that Baku and Yerevan discussed the order of sections for further border delimitation.

At the beginning of November, the tenth meeting of the State Commission on Border Delimitation and the Commission on Issues of Border Delimitation and Border Security between Azerbaijan and Armenia took place at the border.

The parties exchanged views on the sequence of sections of the borderline for the further delimitation work and transport communications.
