Russian Army gets battle tanks with extra protection

The Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation (part of the Uralvagonzavod Concern (UVZ) of Rostec State Corporation) has delivered a batch of T-90M "Proryv" and T72B3M tanks with additional protection to the Russian Defence Ministry.

“On the eve of its birthday, Uralvagonzavod handed over another train of armoured vehicles to the troops. The Russian Armed Forces received new T-90M ‘Proryv’ and T-72B3M with additional protection from the tank builders," TASS quotes the UVZ press service as saying on the occasion of the enterprise’s 87th anniversary.

According to UVZ, the tanks were loaded for the first time on the 13-192-01 platform wagon developed by the Ural Wagon Building Design Bureau (part of UVZ, part of Rostec) and manufactured at Uralvagonzavod.

“This platform is the main rolling stock product in UVZ's order portfolio. It is versatile and is designed for transporting long, piece, packaged and loose cargo, timber and steel structures. It was primarily developed for the transportation of heavy-tracked and wheeled military equipment and can accommodate vehicles weighing up to 65 tonnes.”

The T-90M “Proryv” tank is the most advanced vehicle in the T-90 family and the most adaptable to modern combat conditions, including due to its all-around protection, modern all-day, highly automated fire control system and the implementation of measures to improve survivability.

The T-72B3M is a modernised version of the T-72B3 tank, which received a new sighting system with a digital display and a rear-view television camera. The armour of the combat vehicle has been reinforced with onboard screens with Relikt dynamic protection modules.

Uralvagonzavod is the only manufacturer of tanks for the Russian Armed Forces. The company's enterprises modernise T-72 and T-80 tanks and produce the T-90 tank (with modifications). In 2015, Uralvagonzavod presented the T-14 tank and the T-15 infantry fighting vehicle on the latest Armata tracked platform (a pilot batch of T-14s will be sent to the troops in 2021).
