Russian authorities prevent major terrorist attacks in Dagestan, detaining three plotters
The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia, in collaboration with the Russian Interior Ministry, has successfully thwarted a series of planned terrorist attacks in the Republic of Dagestan.
According to the Central Office of the FSB, three local residents in Kaspiysk have been detained for plotting attacks on law enforcement officers and an Orthodox church, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media sources.
“Improvised explosive devices, weapons, and instructions for combat operations in urban and forest conditions were found at the addresses of residence of the detainees,” the FSB specifies.
This discovery highlights the seriousness of the threat and the advanced planning involved.
Currently, the detainees have confessed to their plans. Investigating authorities have initiated a criminal case under multiple charges, including preparation for a terrorist act, organization of a terrorist community and participation in it, as well as illegal manufacture of explosives.
In a related development, on July 23, the FSB detained two Russian citizens born in 1986 and 1993 in Mariupol. These individuals were allegedly planning to set fire to a mosque in Belgorod, reportedly on the instructions of Ukrainian security services. The FSB's prompt actions have prevented potential violence and highlighted ongoing security challenges in the region.
