Russian combat laser hits FPV drone for first time
A Russian laser-based drone defence system, LazerBuzz, developed under the “Posokh” project, has for the first time successfully struck an FPV drone at a distance of one kilometre during tests.
The developer company informed TASS about the achievement.
According to the developers, the system’s effective range had previously been around 700 meters. The increase in engagement distance was made possible through modernization of the system itself and optimization of its control software algorithms.
The company emphasised that the extended range significantly enhances the safety of operating the complex and makes it possible to intercept a greater number of potential targets before they approach protected facilities.
During the tests, the laser targeted key components of the drone, including the battery and electronic elements. As a result, the drone was disabled and crashed. The developers noted that work on further improving LazerBuzz will continue.
