Russian Federal Security Service thwarts terrorist plot against military officers

The Russian Federal Security Service has successfully intercepted and detained an individual who was planning a terrorist attack targeting three high-ranking military officers of the Russian Defence Ministry.

The suspect, identified as a 30-year-old Russian citizen, was recruited by the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate to carry out the plot, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.

The detained individual had been tasked with delivering three high-power explosive devices disguised as gifts. These devices were intended for senior officials within the Russian Defence Ministry. The suspect planned to detonate the explosives upon confirmation of delivery by courier services.

"The Federal Security Service officers apprehended the Russian citizen who had been recruited by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry," the message says.

In response to the foiled terrorist plot, the Russian Investigative Committee has initiated legal proceedings against the suspect. He faces charges including attempted terrorist attack and illegal trafficking in explosives and explosive devices, as stipulated under Part 1 of Article 30 and Part 1 of Article 205 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing to identify and pursue the organizers and any accomplices involved in the thwarted attack, including foreign citizens who may have facilitated the plot from abroad.
