Russian FM: West seeking to impose its rules in South Caucasus, Central Asia

15 April 2026 09:57

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused Western countries of attempting to impose their own rules in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, describing the situation as a growing geopolitical contest.

Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Lavrov said the West is actively trying to shape the regional order according to its own vision, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

“In Central Asia, an interesting geopolitical struggle is unfolding due to attempts by the West to establish its rules here as well,” he stated.

Lavrov added that Western nations are seeking to play a leading role in influencing how countries in the region organise their internal development and choose their international partnerships. According to him, similar dynamics are also taking place in the countries of the South Caucasus.
