Russian Iskander missiles hit Ukrainian training unit: casualties reported
Russian forces launched a precision strike on a Ukrainian Ground Forces training unit using two Iskander ballistic missiles, resulting in both fatalities and injuries, the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed.
According to the official statement from Ukraine’s Ground Forces, the missiles directly impacted military shelters used to protect personnel during training operations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
"Despite the security measures taken, unfortunately, it was not possible to completely avoid casualties among the personnel. The relevant emergency services are working at the site. The wounded are being provided with all necessary medical assistance," the statement read.
Efforts are currently underway to reinforce training centers, ranges, and other military installations with improved protective infrastructure. The Ground Forces also noted that additional security protocols are being implemented to safeguard personnel amid ongoing missile and airstrike threats from Russia.
Earlier today, air raid sirens were activated in Kyiv and several other regions following alerts from the Ukrainian Air Force about the detection of high-speed aerial targets. One was identified over the Chernihiv region, heading toward Honcharivske, while another was later tracked in the direction of Dnipro.
This latest attack forms part of a broader Russian campaign targeting Ukraine’s military training infrastructure. In May, a Russian strike hit a shooting range in the Sumy region. This was followed in early June by a missile attack on the 239th training ground in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and shortly thereafter, another strike on a facility in the Poltava region.
