Russian IT giants oppose state interference in news feeds
VK and Yandex opposed the bill on recommender algorithms, which will allow them to be turned off.
According to the document, online platforms can be obliged to provide users with the ability to disable the algorithms that form specially selected content in their feed, as well as warn about their use, according to "Kommersant".
The requirement can be extended to social networks, news and search aggregators, audiovisual services, including video hosting.
According to companies, after the adoption of the bill, a third of users will take advantage of the ability to disable algorithms. This could seriously worsen the positions of VK and Yandex. Due to the ability to turn off recommendations by users, the time they spend in all company services can drastically decrease.
According to "Kommersant" source, the expert council of the United Russia party is scheduled to discuss the bill on May 27.
