Russian jewelers create diamonds from pets’ fur
24 March 2026 08:40
Russian jewelers are offering a unique service: creating diamonds from the fur of pets, according to the Telegram channel Shot Proverka.
The process involves extracting carbon from the animal’s fur, then subjecting it to temperatures above 1400 °C and pressures exceeding 5 GPa to grow a diamond. After cutting and polishing, the result is a genuine gemstone. Producing a one-carat diamond requires about two grams of fur—enough to collect in one or two grooming sessions.
Pet claws can also be used in the process. Such custom-made diamonds are priced at roughly $4,300 per carat.
