Russian media: Congestion of heavy trucks expected at Verkhny Lars checkpoint
Heavy trucks are expected to congest on border between Russia and Georgia from 18 to 24 September due to road repair works.
The Georgian side did not comment on the message.
"Due to the works on laying asphalt pavement on the lanes for truck traffic in the direction of the entrance to Russia, reverse traffic will be organised at the exit from Russia from 18 to 24 September. A temporary reduction in capacity is expected, which may lead to congestion of lorry traffic," TASS quotes Rosgranstroy as saying.
The agency asks for more time when planning a trip through the Verkhny Lars checkpoint.
The reconstruction of the Russian road checkpoint on the border with Georgia is at the final stage. The capacity of the border crossing reaches three thousand vehicles per day.
In June this year, Ruslan Davydov, the acting head of the Russian Federal Customs Service, said that "Upper Lars is now being used to break the economic blockade", which was arranged by European countries.
