Russian Navy ships to be modernised to combat drones
The Defence Ministry has approved a plan to modernise the ships and vessels of the Russian Navy.
Izvestiya's sources in the defence ministry said this is necessary to protect the ships from surface and underwater drones.
According to the newspaper, the ships will be equipped with additional electronic warfare stations, special firing points and large-calibre machine guns. Some ships have already undergone appropriate modernisation, including at least one landing ship.
Naval modular electronic warfare systems are now being developed, the newspaper said. They will be able to be installed on open deck platforms. The system will be installed in standard 40-foot shipping containers. Project 22160 patrol ships of the Vasily Bykov type will be the first to receive the system.
Recall, large-caliber machine guns showed themselves well during the attack on the Russian reconnaissance ship "Ivan Khurs" in the exclusive economic zone of Türkiye. In May, the crew repelled an attack by surface drones.
