Russian official says Armenia becomes pawn in US, EU political games
Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, has stated that Russia is paying close attention to all statements made by Armenia.
He commented on the recent statement by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan about the country's partnership with the US and the European Union (EU) in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
Karasin believes that Armenia is becoming a pawn in geopolitical games played by the United States and the West, which could have serious consequences for Armenia's relationships with Russia, as well as its influence and prospects in regional and global affairs. He emphasizes that this misconception is very dangerous and must be understood.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan earlier stated that Armenia has chosen the path of democracy and is focused on strengthening its democratic institutions. He added that the United States and the European Union are Armenia's main partners in this regard. According to him, Armenia is building stronger economic and political relations with Brussels and Washington, but this does not represent a fundamental shift. Mirzoyan stressed that Armenia is committed to developing along the democratic path and sees the West as a good partner.
