Russian party leader calls for return of death penalty

A senior Russian politician has called for the reintroduction of the death penalty for people convicted of terrorism and child sexual abuse offences.

Sergey Mironov, leader of the political party A Just Russia – For Truth, said capital punishment should be reinstated, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

Mironov argued that there were no longer any legal or moral grounds for maintaining Russia’s current moratorium on the death penalty.

He said those who commit what he described as “monstrous crimes” should not be allowed to remain alive.
