Russian president backs Tajik migration office in Moscow to strengthen regional cooperation

17 October 2025 19:38

Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the establishment of reciprocal law enforcement and migration agency offices between Russia and Tajikistan, in a move aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation on security and migration management.

According to an official document, the Russian government has been authorised to sign an agreement with the Republic of Tajikistan for the creation of these representative offices, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Under the agreement, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs will open a representative office in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe. In return, Tajikistan will establish two offices in Moscow: one representing its Ministry of Internal Affairs and the other representing the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment.

The initiative is expected to bolster coordination between the two countries in combating transnational crime, curbing drug trafficking, and streamlining migration processes. With a large number of Tajik nationals living and working in Russia, migration remains a key issue in bilateral relations.

The planned representative offices will facilitate direct communication and operational collaboration between the respective agencies, enabling both countries to address shared challenges more effectively.
