Russian security service foils bomb plot in Pyatigorsk
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had thwarted an alleged plan to carry out an explosion at a security services facility in the southern city of Pyatigorsk and detained two suspects, including a woman holding German citizenship.
The FSB said the woman had been carrying an explosive device in a backpack with the equivalent of around 1.5 kg of TNT, Russian media reports.
The attack was allegedly planned on orders from Kyiv.
Thus, the device was intended to be detonated remotely by a man from a Central Asian country who was also detained nearby. The FSB said the woman was expected to be killed in the blast under the reported plan.
Both suspects have been detained and have given confessions, the FSB said, adding that a criminal case has been opened.
