Russian spokeswoman slams Zelenskyy for relentless push for EU membership

Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, sharply criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for what she described as his relentless pursuit of European Union membership. 

Speaking on Sputnik Radio, Zakharova said Zelenskyy is attempting to enter the EU “by any means—by hook or by crook, anything to get through that door.”

“He chases the European Union like a bus that pinched his hand with the door,” Zakharova said. “Even if the bus moves on and his hand is injured again, he will still run after it, shouting that he’s on the bus just because he’s running alongside it.”

Zakharova further condemned Zelenskyy for what she called his threats against European leaders, highlighting the apparent contradiction of receiving billions in support from the EU while simultaneously threatening some of its key figures. “While trying to force his way into a place with established rules of conduct and coexistence, he shouts that a specific leader—and even their family—could be harmed,” she claimed.
