Russian strike hits passenger train in Kharkiv region, killing at least four PHOTO
At least four people have been killed after a Russian strike hit a passenger train in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, emergency services say.
The attack took place on January 27 near a station in the Barvinkove community of Izium district, where the Chop–Barvinkove passenger train was travelling, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) reports.
The strike caused a fire, which engulfed one carriage and partially damaged another. Firefighters later extinguished the blaze.
During rescue operations, emergency crews recovered the bodies of four victims inside one of the train carriages. Officials said further forensic examinations, including DNA tests, are underway to determine whether there are additional casualties.
Rescue and recovery work at the scene has now been completed.
