Russian suspect detained in Tbilisi in major narcotics case VIDEO
A Russian citizen has been arrested in Georgia on suspicion of involvement in large-scale drug-related offenses, the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.
The Tbilisi Police Department, together with officers from the Gldani-Nadzaladevi Main Division, detained the suspect on charges of illegal acquisition, possession, and facilitating the sale of narcotic drugs in especially large quantities, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement published on a Facebook account.
During searches conducted at the suspect’s temporary and permanent residences in Tbilisi, as well as at other locations, law enforcement officers seized a significant quantity of narcotic substances, including cocaine and methadone.
Police also found drug packaging materials and cash suspected to be linked to criminal activity.
The investigation is being carried out under articles of the Georgian Criminal Code, which provide for penalties ranging from up to 20 years in prison to life imprisonment.
