Russian, Turkish troops patrolling in northeastern Syria
Russian and Turkish troops have jointly patrolled in northeastern Syria in accordance with the Russian-Turkish memorandum of understanding.
"Russian and Turkish troops have jointly patrolled in Al-Hasakah province near Qamishli city in northeastern Syria. The convoy covered a route of over 30 kilometres and monitored the situation for one hour," the statement says, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The patrol involved over 40 servicemen and eight vehicles from both sides, with the convoy escorted along its route by Russian Ka-52 and Mi-8 helicopters. The operation proceeded smoothly, with no violations reported.
The Russian and Turkish forces met at the "Sheyrek" crossing point. The Russian convoy included Tiger, Typhoon, and VPK-Ural armoured vehicles, while the Turkish convoy featured Kirpi armoured vehicles.
The main objectives of the patrol were to monitor the situation and prevent the resurgence of armed conflict. To this end, Russian and Turkish troops inspected the area within 10 kilometres of the border.
"The results of the joint Russian-Turkish patrol once again demonstrated that the presence of Russian troops in the Syrian Arab Republic is a guarantor of peace and stability in the region," the statement says.
