Saakashvili: Ilham Aliyev inscribed his name in history in golden letters
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has extended birthday congratulations to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, praising his leadership and historic role in the region.
According to Caliber.Az, Saakashvili shared the message on his Facebook page, where he described Aliyev as a figure of exceptional significance for both Azerbaijan and the wider Caucasus.
“Today is the birthday of a great son of the Azerbaijani people and the entire Caucasus — Ilham Aliyev,” Saakashvili wrote.
He credited President Aliyev with achieving goals that, in his words, many leaders aspire to but few accomplish. “Ilham has managed to achieve everything we all dream of: he liberated Azerbaijani lands and established peace, transforming Azerbaijan from an object into a very important subject of global politics,” he said.
Saakashvili went on to underscore the uniqueness of these accomplishments in a contemporary historical context. “Few world leaders in modern history can boast such achievements. It can be said with confidence that Ilham Heydarovich has inscribed his name in history in golden letters, and he will be remembered for many centuries,” he wrote.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with the Azerbaijani leader, the former Georgian president expressed pride in their cooperation. “I am proud that I had the opportunity to be friends with and work closely with President Aliyev,” Saakashvili noted.
He also highlighted Aliyev’s leadership style and political resolve, describing it as a model for others. “And today he shows everyone an example of principledness and steadfastness in defending the dignity of the entire nation. This is exactly what a true leader should be — someone who is not afraid to go against the current and achieves results,” he wrote.
Saakashvili concluded his message by offering his wishes to President Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people. “Long life to him and prosperity to his country,” he said.
