Saudi Arabia's “sleeping prince” dies after 20 years in coma PHOTO
Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed Al Saud, known in the media as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36.
He had been in a coma for over 20 years following a severe car accident in 2005 while studying at the London Military College, Caliber.Az reports, citing Western media.
The accident caused a massive brain haemorrhage and internal bleeding when the prince was just 15 years old. He was subsequently transferred to the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he was kept on a ventilator and remained under constant medical supervision.
Despite occasional physical responses, such as slight finger movements, he never regained consciousness. His father, Prince Khalid bin Talal, refused to disconnect life support throughout these years and devoted considerable effort to providing continuous care for his son.
Prince Al-Waleed’s death was officially confirmed on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in a statement from the royal court. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 20, at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
