Scorching heat in France: Temporary traffic restrictions are imposed

19 June 2022 04:29

Many events were canceled in the Gironde province due to the temperature reaching 40 degrees in some regions of France.

According to the statement made by the French Meteorological Administration, due to the increasing summer temperatures, a red alert was issued in 14 provinces and an orange alert in 56 provinces.

In some parts of the country, temperatures reached as high as 40 degrees.

In the statement made by the Governorship of Gironde Province in the southwest of the country, which was put on a red alert, it was recorded that the temperatures in the province will reach 40 degrees today and 41 degrees tomorrow.

All indoor activities banned

In the statement, it was announced that all activities to be held outside and indoors without air conditioning until the end of the hot period are banned by the decision of the governor.

In the statement, which was asked not to go out at noon when the sun comes at a right angle, it was emphasized that hot weather carries a higher risk especially for the elderly, chronic diseases, homeless and babies.

Drought and forest fire risk

In 40 provinces, different levels of restrictions were imposed on the use of water, especially in agricultural activities.

It is feared that extreme heat will trigger drought in the country, causing forest fires.

Temporary restrictions on traffic

Temporary restrictions are imposed on traffic against ozone pollution caused by the heat wave in the country.

According to the statement made by the Paris Police Department, as of tomorrow, restrictions on traffic exits have been imposed in the capital and its immediate surroundings for a temporary period, and speed limits have been reduced at certain hours.

Similar restrictions were imposed on traffic in the French cities of Lyon, Villeurbanne and Caluire.
