Scotland calls for new independence referendum
Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said her region is again seeking the right to hold a referendum on independence from the United Kingdom.
The Scottish government carried Sturgeon's remarks on its website.
"After everything that's happened, it's time to present a different and better concept. It's time to talk about how to make Scotland richer and fairer. It's time to talk about independence and then make a choice," Sturgeon said.
Scottish Government Minister and Scottish Green Party Co-Leader Patrick Harvie agreed, noting that London was holding back the region environmentally, socially and economically and was not thinking about the interests of the people of Scotland.
On June 14, the Scottish authorities published the first of a series of documents "Building a New Scotland", which compares the UK with many other northern European states - not in favour of the first.
At the same time, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is categorically opposed to the idea of a new vote.
