Serbia, Hungary sign bilateral military cooperation plan for 2025
Serbia and Hungary have signed a defence agreement aimed at expanding their strategic cooperation in the military sector, with plans for joint activities in 2025.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic made the announcement, emphasizing that the new agreements between the two countries are among the most crucial aspects of their comprehensive strategic partnership, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
President Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed their mutual desire to strengthen ties in the defence sector, with both leaders indicating their intent to accelerate cooperation in the coming years. The two countries' defence ministries have already signed a bilateral military cooperation plan for 2025, alongside a document outlining the framework for implementing strategic defence initiatives.
The timing of the agreement coincides with remarks made by a member of Montenegro’s parliament, who suggested that Montenegro should pursue a military-technical cooperation agreement with Serbia, Hungary, and Slovakia. This statement comes in response to a recent pact between Kosovo, Croatia, and Albania, which has been perceived as a direct challenge to Serbia and Montenegro’s security interests.
Serbia has consistently maintained its stance on not joining NATO or the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), reaffirming its independent defence policies while strengthening ties with regional partners like Hungary.
