Seventeen migrants rescued off Izmir coast after boat breakdown
Seventeen irregular migrants, including two children, were rescued off the coast of Türkiye's Izmir province after their inflatable boat became stranded at sea due to engine failure, authorities told media.
The incident occurred in open waters near the Karaburun district. According to the Turkish Coast Guard Command, the vessel began drifting after its engine broke down, prompting those on board to issue a distress signal.
Coast guard teams responded by dispatching patrol boats to the area. Rescue crews successfully evacuated all 17 individuals from the disabled inflatable boat.
No injuries were reported during the operation.
Following the rescue, the migrants were transferred to the Directorate of Migration Management, where they will undergo standard administrative procedures.
