Ship fire in Marmara Sea claims two lives
A fire broke out on the 104-metre bulk carrier FG Sevil, flying the Panamanian flag, while sailing off the coast of Sedef Island in the Marmara Sea.
The blaze erupted in the engine room during the vessel's journey, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
In response to the incident, a rescue boat and tugboat from the Coast Guard Command were dispatched, alongside firefighting teams.
The fire was brought under control thanks to the swift intervention of the teams, but sadly, two individuals Hüseyin Aydemir and Gökhan Kan lost their lives, and the ship sustained significant material damage.
The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the incident, and it has been reported that the ship will be towed to the Kartal Anchorage Area.
