Six drones shot down on approach to Moscow, mayor says

Russian air defenses shot down six drones flying toward Moscow, the capital’s Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said on September 25.

“Six UAVs flying toward Moscow have been destroyed by the Defence Ministry’s air defence systems,” Sobyanin wrote on the MAX messaging platform.

Emergency services were deployed at the sites where fragments from the downed drones fell, according to the mayor.

The incident comes days after Moscow and the surrounding region were targeted by a large-scale drone attack. Russian authorities said on September 20 that more than 1,600 drones had been intercepted, including around 450 approaching Moscow.
