Sky News Arabia: Dozens of Israeli embassies suspend work

05 April 2024 13:24

According to a report by Sky News Arabia, up to 28 diplomatic missions in various countries have been closed by the Israeli authorities due to the perceived threat of retaliation from Iran.

This was in response to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's promise to seek revenge against Israel for the strike on the consulate in Damascus. The attack led to the deaths of two generals and five officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Israeli Defence Forces have stated their preparedness for any potential threat against the country, highlighting the seriousness with which they view the situation. In anticipation of a possible response from Iran, the Israeli army has heightened the alertness of their air force and air defence and cancelled military leave.

In addition, Kan radio reported that Israeli diplomats have been evacuated from embassies in some countries, and warnings have been issued to diplomatic representatives, advising them against participating in public events.

On April 1, the Israeli military targeted the diplomatic quarter in Damascus, where the Iranian embassy is situated. The consulate was completely destroyed, and the aforementioned individuals lost their lives. Ebrahim Raisi has vowed that the perpetrators and sponsors of the strike "will be punished at the hands of the Mujahideen."
