Snow blankets Russia’s Transbaikal region on second day of summer VIDEO
02 June 2026 21:11
Russia’s Transbaikal region has been hit by an unseasonal snowstorm just as summer began, disrupting conditions in parts of the region and sharply reducing visibility on roads.
The town of Petrovsk-Zabaykalsky was covered in heavy snow, with streets and surrounding areas blanketed within hours, according to local reports cited by the Telegram channel Mash.
Authorities said visibility on key routes deteriorated rapidly as snowfall intensified, creating difficult driving conditions and raising concerns over transport disruption.
Meteorologists warned that sub-zero temperatures could extend beyond Transbaikal in the coming days, with frosts expected to reach neighbouring Buryatia as the cold spell continues.
